The County Fair!

I have always loved going to the fair. I look forward to it all summer! Even though every year it is the same, I still like to go and see the same things every year. It probably has something to do with all the memories of the fair growing up. I probably don't even have as many memories as my brother and sister, but I still love it.
I went to the Dawson County Fair growing up and was for sure it had to be the best one in the whole state! I would run around all day with my friend Brenda and have tons of fun. My family would have a running ticket at the cafe so I would just go get stuff all day and charge it to our account. We would go through the commercial building at least twice a day getting all the free goodies and signing my parents up for stuff. If we ever needed a quick drink we would go to the Culligan booth and get us a paper cup of water. Then we would run over to the petting zoo and play with all the new puppies and kittens. Then we would run over to the barn, where my parents usually were and beg for one of those puppies.
One year we were at the dog show and someone had miniature dauchsand puppies. I held one all day and begged my parents to get it. I actually got to buy it and I took it home and named it Sylvia. She was my best pet.
Then there was the one year I was taking a cow to the fair and it wasn't the nicest one around. We got it out of the horse trailer at the fair and it ran off. We had a bunch a men running around the fair grounds trying to get the calf. We finally got it and they gave it some tranquilizer. When it was time for me to show it....she laid down in the pen and wouldn't get up...to much tranquilizer!
I have gone to a fair every year as long as I can remember. Daniel and I even went on our first date to the fair. No wonder I like it so much!
Now that we don't live in Dawson County anymore we have been going to the Saunders County Fair with my sister and the Lancaster fair. I think it would be fun some year to try and go to as many county fairs as I could. Anyway, here are a few pictures from the Saunders County fair. They always have a parade on Thursday evening and then we head over the fair after supper in the park.

My niece got the best food entry at the Saunders County fair for her dinner rolls! She even got a medal. I must say, I never did this well in 4-H.
Some things never change. I really wanted to take this puppy home from the petting zoo.

Well the county fair is over....now we just have to wait a few weeks for the State Fair!

This is great! Sounds like you had fun! I wish I had those kind of fair memories. The only one I remember is riding the "octopus" and then seeing the pizza I had for dinner when I got off. Not so good the second time around. Yuck! Sorry to be so graphic. I could delete what I just wrote, but I'm not going to. :) I figure you're a country gal and a mom - you can take it! Ha!
